Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), the world’s biggest contract chip maker, Thursday reported its best monthly sales ever.
The company’s sales rose to 27.57 billion new Taiwan dollars (US$841 million) in July, up 32 percent over the same month last year, it said in a statement. The July figure handily beat the previous sales record for a single month, NT$27.52 billion, which was set last November.
TSMC’s sales for the first seven months of 2006 rose to NT$186.1 billion, up 38 percent compared to NT$135 billion last year.
The company’s financial performance is watched carefully by analysts and researchers because the chip maker is considered a bellwether for the IT industry due to the variety of chips it produces for computer, communications and consumer electronics products.
